SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks using a command line. The protocol is used by many knowledgeable users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for a number of things with regards to the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the web server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for just about anything - you can install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different OS too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a lot of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is provided with all Linux cloud website hosting we offer. With some of them, it's included by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade which you can add with a couple of clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access through the section related to it where you will also find the information you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can choose the password which you'll use and, if required, you'll be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same location. All commands that may be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article alongside relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you'll also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you can activate and de-activate the function with one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can easily enter the password that you'd like to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you could also change it as frequently as you require. A full list of the commands which can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a number of instances. An extra function after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting

The virtual private server solutions which we offer include SSH access by default, not as an optional upgrade or a function that you need to enable. The minute your new server is prepared, you shall be able to connect and begin working on your content using the login details that you've entered during the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via email too. Because your VPS will be isolated from the other ones on the physical hosting server, there aren't any limitations in regards to what you can or cannot do through SSH. You'll be able to download, install and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the entire server or only a particular software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you will require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
